Do you have any tips on using your network for sales in a non-sleazy way?

I have been pinging people I know who I genuinely think might like something I'm building, and I do hand-write each email without a template asking them if they might want to check it out, but the result always looks like... I got a bot to send a template email to people I actually care about.

Hi! I was always horrible in networking (in almost every scenario), and this is blocking my career. My main handicap is that I don't know how to approach people, and I feel uncomfortable talking to someone if we don't have an together. Is there a way to overcome this?

And also, how do you pick the right mentor? Many thanks!
